Forming a Catholic Conscience on Voting

Forming a Catholic Conscience on Voting

All,

There are a number of questions Catholics ask about voting.  Can I vote for a pro-abortionist?  Should I vote for someone who best helps the
poor? Should I be for pro-gay marriage candidates?  I think these questions may also apply to many Christians and other religions and maybe no
religion at all.  Here are two websites giving good info on forming a good voter's conscience and other info of interest.  The first site is
essentially a directory of catholic voter sites, the second is the site for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), there are several documents
there - I requested permission from the USCCB to attach their bulletin insert to my email but they declined.  That's the first time I've ever
requested reprint permission from a religious organization and been declined - even from the USCCB.
The USCCB did say, however, that I could send the link to their site - I don't think I needed that but....

As Catholics (and Christians) we have an obligation to form our consciences in the light of the truth the Church
teaches.  -Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by
the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
To whom God's love
commits me here,
Ever this day,
be at my side,
To light and guard,
Rule and guide. Amen.

The Holy Father's Intentions for the month of October
2008:

General: That the Synod of Bishops may help bishops and
theologians as well as catechists and pastoral workers engaged in the service of
the Word of God transmit with courage the truth of the faith in communion with
the entire Church.

Missionary: That in this month dedicated to
the missions, through the promotional activities of the Pontifical Missionary
Works and other organisms, the Christian may feel the need to participate in the
Church’s universal mission with prayer, sacrifice and concrete help.
